Carlton Playground

Client: Camden Active Spaces, Camden Council / NHS
Site: London, UK (2014)
Designer: Wayward and erect architecture
Contractor: Blakedown

An imaginative Hilltop Village forms the concept for the Carlton School playground. The blacktop is transformed into a winding road network for bikes, scooters and feet, racing under and through colourful timber sheds. You can run up the roofs and slide through sheds in this highly challenging and imaginative playground, dreamed up in collaboration with the children of Carlton School.

This playground was part of the Camden Active Spaces programme, a commission to create challenging, innovative structures within schools that form the basis for new and exciting programmes of physical activity that inspire young people and their families to become more active and healthy.

Awarded the Making Space, Children in Scotland Award (2016), The New London Architecture Award (2015), BALI Award (2015), and shortlisted for the Camden Design Award (2015).
