House of Wayward Plants recycles thousands of plants from the RHS Chelsea Flower Show

Where do the plants go after the RHS Chelsea Flower Show?

This spring, Wayward is working with Barking Riverside London, DF Clark and Futurecity to produce an innovative recycling scheme: to rehome thousands of the plants and materials from the world’s most prestigious flower show.

As part of an ambitious community exchange, with the support of a volunteer team of nearly 40 volunteers, thousands of recycled plants and materials have been distributed to more than 20 local schools and community gardens, creating a lasting legacy for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2017.

The initiative is part of the House of Wayward Plants, a long-term project run by Wayward that facilitates large-scale community plant exchanges and adoption events for unwanted plants. This is the second year Wayward has been the Official Recycling Partner of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Wayward is working with Barking Riverside London to establish a recycling centre for plants and landscape materials that supports community green spaces across East London. This is the first step in an arts and ecology strategy being developed by Wayward and Futurecity for Barking Riverside London.
